It’s so good to be back…

I hope you all took some time off to rest and recharge for a great year ahead.

I spent an amazing time in beautiful Bay area with my sister and her adooorable 5-year-old. She’s absolutely lovely. There is nothing about her not to love. Pure perfection. Kids are pure positive energy, they carry their wellbeing with them, giving and receiving so freely, unconditionally. It takes a long time before life sort of beats that out of us.

As we mature and evolve through life, we learn ways to ‘tolerate’ people, relationships and differences in opinions. Sometimes we hide from emotional dramas or detach from people by cutting communication channels, or we create a plexiglass shield around our heart.

Closing off our channels of communication and enclosing our heart causes the brain to shut down, instead of searching for answers, inside and outside, and working towards solutions we become cold, distant and self-centered. We miss the opportunity for expansion, transformation, empowerment and spiritual upliftment.

Our relationships- personal/ professional/ casual/ spiritual- pose constant challenges in our life. Relationships serve as a tremendous tool for self-realization. Very close relationships, especially spousal and parent-child relationships, serve as a doorway to our inner world. They are the mirror through which we can understand our unconscious.

Every time we give up on others, we, in fact, give up on ourselves. We’re sending out a message: ‘I’m not capable of dealing with this, I’m not willing to expand, I don’t have the patience/ compassion/ tolerance it takes to make it work. I’m not willing to give up my point of view. I’m unwilling to accommodate and let go to save my ego/prove my point (even if it costs me this relationship), I’m right (and you are wrong!)’.

It sure may feed our ego, but it depletes our being.

In the process of cutting ourselves off from pain/people, we also cut ourselves off from life and our body/mind starts degenerating. Our cells are continually processing what we experience, so the interpretations we internalize also impact our cellular functions and neural pathways. Habitually experiencing hopeless, helpless feelings during one’s life can create chemical and neurological changes causing one’s brain cells to deteriorate.

Another big mistake we make is suppressing emotions instead of resolving them.

Suppressing our emotions usually makes them worse than what they are.  Keeping them inside holds us down causing confusion, despair and all sorts of diseases and emotional imbalances.  Eventually, they become internal wounds imploding and draining our lifeforce and crippling our spirit.

In his book Messages from the Body, Dr Michael J. Lincoln stated that all illnesses and disorders are linked to beliefs and changes of beliefs about oneself, about the nature of our relationships with others, about our position in our social world, and about where we stand in relation to the world. And these, in turn, are determined by our life experiences, by our interactions with others, and by our soul history- what we carry in our consciousness.

What goes on in our consciousness is continuously affecting our body – and vice versa. In many ways, the body and the mind imitate and imprint each other. Ultimately, of course, consciousness underlies and is the final determinant of everything, and the body reflects this vividly.

The problems we face in our lives- emotional, physical/ psychological are the outcome of particular thought patterns and/or emotional disharmonies. They are the warning system regarding the things in which we are caught up and are causing us significant, serious, and perhaps even painful outcomes. Our life-problems point to what needs to be tracked and modified in our emotional/ cognitive/ behavioural/ spiritual system. They teach us, expand us, and help move us on – if we can understand them and heed them.

Love and peace
